Players of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero who frequently abandon online matches may want to reconsider, as the game's development team is taking action to address this behavior. Ranked matches, a key feature of the game, have faced significant criticism from the community, prompting Spike Chunsoft to step in and work toward creating a fairer multiplayer experience.

As the revival of the beloved Budokai Tenkaichi series, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has made waves since its release, becoming the highest-selling Dragon Ball game in the United States, the third best-selling Bandai Namco title of all time, and the fourth best-selling video game of 2024. However, despite its initial triumph, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero saw a nearly 90 percent drop in its Steam player count within a month. Much of this decline has been linked to complaints about online multiplayer issues. To combat one of the most prevalent problems—players quitting mid-match—a message on the game's official Twitter account announced that players with "excessive disconnection or quitting rates" will face consequences. While specific thresholds were not provided, offenders will be penalized with increased timeout periods, temporarily blocking them from joining new online matches. Some players, however, are calling for harsher measures, such as automatically awarding losses to those who quit or disconnect.
